I suffered through this movie as I'm sure millions of others have way too many times in my childhood when the holiday season rolled around. I did this under the assumption that because it was made so long ago that we liked that they could even make a movie back then. It was when I found out that filmmakers in the 80s decided to unlearn all of the cinematic advances of the last 40 years to make this monstrosity that the gloves came off. So amount of double-dog daring could make me not want to shoot my eye out rather than watch this movie ever again. Holiday movies are easily salvageable with heart-melting forgiveness, family bonding and Christmas miracles but depending on the audience pretending to like and be interested in the 40's is not enough.

A Christmas Story
